Anonymous asked: Since GameType started as a project for your portfolio, do you plan to maintain it beyond it fulfilling that requirement or will it fall by the wayside eventually?

I am a man of a million projects that rarely see completion. That being said, this is near-complete! There a ton of ideas that are floating around for further progress on the site. I would love to keep working on it, but what will most realistically happen is it will stay in its current state for a good while until I can find the time and resources to do more to it.

So, yeah. I want to.

v0.8 BETA!

Hooray! We are officially in beta. Go to your user profile to add Twitter and Facebook connectivity. It will only update those services if you tell it to when composing a new post. Also, you can’t freely add a game anymore to the system. Your post will enter a moderation queue for approval or rejection. Thanks guys for helping me test this! Now go tell everyone you know about it for ultimate testing.

v0.6

Next version! Closer and closer to the finish line. As you can see, the front page has a ton of more information now. This isn’t an ideal solution, just more a show of what kinds of info can be displayed. The other new thing is the link below this box, View Master Game List. It does what you think it does. Thanks! (P.S. The weekly stats are wonky, gonna fix that.)

v0.5

Man, been slacking hardcore. But this update brings user profiles, a “forgot password” functionality, and spoiler tags in posts! It should all be pretty self explanitory. Thanks! And remember: if you come across an error, LOG OUT AND LOG BACK IN!!

v0.4

Whee! Got this out today and didn’t even think I would. You can now view systems and games (along with their associated posts of course), but more importantly, you can COMMENT! You’ll see comment icons next to posts that have them. Also, I hope you guys put real email addresses when registering because that’s where notification emails get sent to. Please keep posting, guys! If you experience weird issues, log out and back in. Later! (P.S. New week, new popular games list)

v0.3

Need to get more of these updates out more quickly! You can now use a rich text editor when composing, which I’ve limited to basic functions now. Shoot me a suggestion if you think I left out a function on the editor. Also, you can go back and edit posts. And I fixed the link in the header to your own profile, too, durr. Oh, and one last thing: EVERYONE LOG OUT AND LOG BACK IN. Thanks. <3

v0.2

You can now view user profiles! Although there isn’t much there, just a filler for where profile info will be and their list of posts. Also, I put a dummy page where errors used to be. I was actually getting an email per error, so that’ll be nice now. :P Also updated the footer link to go to the new Tumblr. Next on the list: comments! Gonna have to manage time well on this considering Pokemon and Dragon Age 2 both come in tomorrow.

v0.1

You can register and log-in, you can write posts, and you can view posts that are on the Recent Posts list. Everything you can see works, basically, except for some links. A lot of links. There are many fake links, so that just means I haven’t gotten to that part yet.

GameType is a blogging service specifically tailored for talking about games.
The alpha is up! If you play games at all, please go and participate in this for me.
I needed to have a Python project in my portfolio for the San Francisco job I have a shot at, so I decided to make this. You post about games and then tag it with the game. Then, you can see who else has been talking about that game and which game people have been talking about the most. It’s hella bare right now in features, but I wanted to get a basic functionality version up so I could start collecting data while I finish up the remaining features.
You will be helping my chances to succeed in life by posting on this site. If you want to help out, which I hope you do, please read the site (why wouldn’t you?) and pay extra attention to the fields in pink with the red borders. Those are my dev notes that are important to read.
Thanks to those of you who will help me out. It’ll mean a lot to me! :D If you have any questions about it, just drop them in my Tumblr ask box.
Oh, and don’t reblog this yet, please. I’m not looking for widespread use right now. Just my immediate Tumblrfolk should be good. Thanks guys. <3
